Sale and Burning of Chametz

Before Pesach, it is a requirement to eliminate all Chametz from our possession. Halacha allows for Chametz to be sold to a non-Jew in those circumstances when elimination is not an option.

Arrangements for such sale should be made through Rabbi Meir Sabo using the contract which will be available in the office or online through the link below. Rabbi Sabo will be in his office on Sunday, April 2nd from 10:30am to 1pm for anyone who wants to meet with him in person to sign the contract.

The contract must be completed by Monday, April 3rd at 9:00 am.

The general sale of Chametz will take effect on Wednesday morning, April 5th before 11:30am. All Chametz which is not being sold, must be burned. Burning of Chametz will occur at Tiferet Israel on Wednesday, April 5th at 11:00am.

It is customary to include a donation to Tiferet Israel Congregation “Rabbi’s Tzedakah Discretionary Fund” with your completed form. Funds are used to aid families in need of Passover assistance. Should you know of such a person or family, please contact Rabbi Sabo directly. Of course, all such discussions will be strictly confidential.
